Sir;
I am trying to find out about my father's military service.
Recently I was told that he served aboard the USS Bennington, sometime
around
1944-1948, timeframe.
He was a pilot,  Angelo T. Lewis
I have written the US Military records office and requested his service
records, but that was almost 5 months ago and have not received any reply.
Is there any way to verify if he served on the Bennington and when?
If he did, is there any way to communicate with peers that may have served
at
the same time?
My father died in 1982, and never spoke of his Navy experience.
Any information or suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.
